Breaking up is hard to do

​No one likes to break up. The tears, the heartache, the agony of it all. So when we find a hair stylist we like, we want to keep them forever. However, sometimes, you may have to break up with your hair stylist. It’s not something you want to do but, for the sake of your hair, it is sometimes necessary. How do you know when it’s time to break up with your hairstylist and find someone new? These telltale signs will help you to figure it out. If the signs are there, it’s time to move on.

She doesn’t listen to you
If you want a particular style and you walk out of the salon with something completely different, this is a huge red flag. If your hairstylist doesn’t think the style you want will look good on you or is even feasible, she should be honest enough to tell you so. But to give you a style completely different just because she thinks she knows what’s best for your hair is a big giant no-no.

She has no idea how to cut your hair
I have half straight hair (on top) and half curly (on the bottom) hair. Due to chemotherapy, my hair came back with a whole new life of its own. My hairstylist had no idea how to cut it. None whatsoever. Instead of telling me she had no clue, I kept leaving the salon with a cut that was totally wrong for my hair type. I found a new girl who actually asked her boss (the salon owner) for advice. She admitted she wasn’t sure but instead of winging it, she went to someone with more experience than her. I admired her for that and now she “gets me.”

You never leave the salon feeling refreshed
When you experience a hair salon, you should walk out feeling good, confident, and totally relaxed. If you leave as stressed or more stressed than when you walked in, you need to walk out and keep walking. No salon should ever make you feel like you just took a trip to the dentist. They want you to feel comfortable and relaxed when you are there. A salon is an experience and you should always leave feeling refreshed.

She constantly tries to pawn products on you
A good hairstylist knows that most people aren’t going to spend $100 or more on hair products. Just because she is using those products on you in the salon, she is fully aware that they are pricey. If you show an interest in what she is using then she should explain what it is and what the price is and leave the decision to you. Just keep in mind also that you aren’t going to get the same results at home if you aren’t using the products that they use in the salon.
